  17. First I want to say this is a very cute version of this style of explosion box. From being a follower of yours I know you like to be given credit for your designs and I'm a little surprised you didn't give any credit for this amazing idea. I've seen a couple different versions of this and I'm sure you have too. Just something to consider. Great job nonetheless!

  18. Love this project! Wow, I am also so surprised that you did not give credit where credit is due! For someone whom is such a stickler for wanting her "due credit" seems so unfair of you ro ignore those that totally inspired this project!!! Your version is amazing, but shame on you!!!

  19. When I did the class for this on Ustream several weeks ago, I discussed how the exploding box is a classic. I also discussed how I wished I knew who was the original designer for that classic version.... I would most certainly give that person FULL credit. (Feel free to watch the video and you will see all this) This basic design has been around for many years in the PUBLIC DOMAIN. There are MANY different variations. I have not, however, ever seen one made from envelopes as I have done. I spent MANY hours researching exactly this subject. Again, if anyone can give me the name of the originator of the exploding box I will unquestionable give them full credit. I do state in my pattern that this design has it's roots in the classic exploding box.
Do you also comment on or email every website, blog, or etsy site that sells the classic/traditional exploding box ? If so, I am sure you are aware that there are hundreds out there.
I have also never asked for DUE CREDIT. I have only asked for my copyright of my patterns/designs to be respected. I have a generous angel policy and give freely of my design work for personal use. Why you feel that is somehow wrong is beyond me. Musicians can copyright their music, writers can copyright their written works. Why is it that everyone seems to have such difficulties with artists/designers laying claim to their work??
If something is copied for personal use it is absolutely fine. I don't even ask that you give design credit or DUE CREDIT when something is posted on a blog or Youtube. It's nice but I don't demand it!
I have had several attacks saying that I want to lay claim to almost anything to do with any kind of mini. You name it, I have been attacked for it! All because I stand up and defend my work. I have not nor will I ever lay claim to something that is not of my own design. Most of the attacks can be attributed to a lack of knowledge regarding what can be copyrighted, what is derivative work and what is in the public domain. It is a confusing subject, but people tend to attack first without knowledge and are not interested in becoming educated on the subject.
I am sorry you feel that you have to hide behind "anonymity" It always easier to by critical when you are not really putting yourself out there.

  20. Here is a definition of what public domain means:

In a general context public domain may refer to ideas, information and works that are "publicly available", but in the context of intellectual property law, which includes copyright, patents and trademarks, public domain refers to works, ideas, and information which are intangible to private ownership and/or which are available for use by members of the public.

Copyrighted works may not be used for derivative works without permission from the copyright owner, while public domain works can be freely used for derivative works without permission.

This definition came from Wikipedia. I used it because it was the easiest to understand.

  21. Laura,
you rock! Seriously, I always pull my husband in to see what you've got on your etsy as of late. I truly am inspired by you.
I am sure life is crazy busy with all of your creative happenings, but I hope you know how many people LOVE LOVE LOVE your work.
What a blessing and gift you have!

  22. Oh, and I think you always give proper credit. NO one should accuse you of anything. You share and share and share. Thank you and SHAME ON THEM for caring SOOOO much.

  23. As far as I can see, Laura, from now on, you should never even "bother" answering those comments... we love your work...

  24. Too bad you can't come up with your own original "twist" on the exploison box. As well as the Halloween theme. I'll take my business elsewhere.

  25. umm whoever you are that comes to our (meaning Laura and her true fans)blog, I would very much appreciate if you kept your negativity out of here. We hve no use for you or your comments. This is a free country which means no one forces you to visit this page. Go on about your business of spreading negativity elsewere.
    sincerly,

  26. To those anonymous persons who point out that the exploding box should be given credit where credit is due: I TOTALLY AGREE!
No one on youtube, blog, or ustream mentioned that this exploding box originated centuries ago, which most now call an etui box. This was very popular with the French Victorians, but existed centuries before then. The originator is unknown, but it is shameless that all who tout this as their "creation" did not refer to the exploding box as an age-old idea.
Everyone, including the two "Anonymous" should check their history lessons before flinging accusations. Look before you people leap to conclusions.
The explosion box is for everyone to enjoy; papercrafting should be fun and not a fight for who has the better paper project. Relax and laugh and have fun; we have enough wars out in the world. Let's keep our world a happy one. Zelda

  29. I really don't care if there are a million of different versions of exploding boxes out there. I love and want my "Laura version" of it, I want her inches, her dimensions, her recommendations. I am her blog follower and I -like everybody else- am free to go if I don't like it. Besides she has already told people a million times that there many exploding boxes out there and she has come up with the envelope version as something new. And it is true, I have watched almost all the videos about scrapbooking on you tube, and never seen any like hers. (and to tell the truth, I wouldn't care even if saw because of the reasons I told above)...
I am here to have fun and relax. I am so happy that I have found her, her ideas have given new horizons to my small crafting world... Yes, please "take your business elsewhere" so that we can deal with our business and have fun.

  30. No one accused Laura of inventing the explosion box.  The main focus of the
comments seemed to be the "type" of explosion box that was made.  The idea of an explosion box being a dwelling and adding a roof line as compared to just an
ordinary lid is the concept in question.  This is what is NOT Laura's original
idea.  Her project is beautiful as many of her projects are.  Her talent is not and has never been doubted. She is one to be so vocal about her designs and ideas, that brought upon the comments regarding her integrity.   To continuously insist that your designs are "copyrighted" is in plain and simple terms pure poppycock.  Just because you go to a website and post a button on your blog means absolutely nothing. That button and tactic is only used in an attempt to try and intimidate the gullible. Once a die cut machine is used wether electric or manual( meaning a punch), the design is no longer yours! Those images or dies belong to the manufacturer of that product.  It takes a long and arduous process to copyright, patent or register any product, design or pattern.  It must be done for each and every item, it is very expensive and must be "approved" by the governing U. S.offices.  Unless this process is followed and completed, there is NO copyright. In addition, your "Angel" policy is also full of bunk. There is and can never be such a “policy”. To imply that there is such a “policy”, is just ridiculous. It would be very interesting to see anyone attempt to enforce any of which you claim to be protected. It is etiquette to ask permission to mass produce another's idea, or sell in quantity, but it is not legally necessary at all.  Acknowledging the original creator is always proper and a practice that we all should follow.  It is the whole idea that you are constantly complaining about being "copied" that is the root of the backlash that is now upon you.  You have become a victim of your own making. Everyone regardless of what medium gains and is inspired by other’s creativity. If from a design or idea, all inspiration is rooted from someone or somewhere else. No one needs a Wikipedia lesson from you and your condescending attitude does nothing to serve your cause of self righteousness. Talking down to people that you believe to be your inferior is rude, crude and unattractive. I personally would not hesitate for a second to compare I Qs with you! For goodness sakes, it is just paper.  Zelda aka Joy is so right in a lot of her comments, it is a shame that Laura can not follow a lot of her advice. There is certainly room out there for many talented creative paper crafters. You want to be given your kudos, it is only fair that you return the same respect and credits where they are due.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It is so sad to see your web of intimidation unravel. You my dear Laura have brought this upon yourself with your constant whining about how people are always copying you and you’re full of crock copyright disclaimer. There is no question that you are an amazing paper crafter. This whole thing about you being so amazing makes you seem so ugly. There are many very talented paper crafters that don’t get ATTACKED like you say because they are not constantly trying to intimate with copyright laws. To top it off you constantly feel the need to educate use on a law that you do not practice. I for one have purchased every single one of your tutorials; being that you are such a pest about it, I am letting you know that I am forwarding every single one of the patterns that I have purchased from you to my entire contact list. Now let’s see what you are going to do about. Please tell your lawyer, you are such a joke. But I must say I will stick around to see what you make next. It is always amazing.

PS: Zelda you are 100% correct that paper crafting is a happy hobby. Laura has made it ugly for herself. Now let her go make herself some lemonade in place of the Dr. Pepper she always drinks.

  32. I will let you "have fun". I have very talented ladies that are very creative, fun and non-judgemental. I'll let you continue with the drama. This is all such BS and now all you talk about Copyright issues and such, is that all you know ? Apparently, you are very insecure, as you continue to carrying on about the logistics of legal issues that you beat to death like a dead horse.

  33. Hi Laura, I am very glad that you inspire me. And put so much effort in sharing your creativity in your kits, u-stream classes and videos. Hugs Cherlijn

  34. Hi, Anonymous!
Oh, please don't let this bother you; I can feel it does. It is as you said -- only paper, I agree. You don't have to even look at this blogspot or ustream or youtube; they're so upsetting for you. I get you're so angry and I get your many objections. Thanks for the commentary. I wish you all the best. Zelda

  35. WOW!!! The level of anger shown here is troubling. This is Lauras private blog why would you even come here if this is how you feel. By the comments you continue to to make its obvious that you check back in on this site very regularly. Why? What is the need? Go elseware please. Obviously we arent your type of crafters and you are not ours either. Part ways and be done with it.

  36. Wow!!! Has it really gotten this bloody serious?
Take a look at the video she posted and you will clearly "HEAR" Laura mentioning how she would like to be able to give credit to the person who originally came up with the exploding box.
Stay off her blog with all this junk...

  37. I don't know where all this nastiness is coming from but it needs to STOP!! MOST of us come here to learn, share and have a good time. Those of you who don't do the same should just stay away! Seems like there are always a few who just have to try to ruin it for others. I feel sorry for you! After all, no one is making you visit this blog or watch Laura's classes. If it makes you so angry and miserable, I think your life would be happier if you just went along your merry way. I'm proud to post under my username and not hide behind an anonymous post.

    ReplyDelete
  38. One should really read the responses before they start assuming the intent. No one is angry, only very disappointed in the integrity. It is obvious that all comment were correct about copyright and such!!!!!!!! Since not one of Laura's goons cared to comment on this subject!! Wow, how small can some be. If Laura does not want public comments, then she should not have a public blog. You put it out there, then OWN IT.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I find your comment about "owning it" to be very interesting since you only post as anonymous. If you think referring to Laura's followers as "goons" doesn't sound angry, then I don't know what does. I will not justify any other remarks with a response.

    ReplyDelete
  40. All of this unpleasantness could be stopped with a statement from Laura herself about copyright and such, but seems she is hiding! No one was attempting to be unkind or ugly, seems that is where you have taken it. It was and is about integrity!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't think she's hiding. I think she's just sick and tired of all this crap and has better things to do with her time.

  42. I am so looking forward to Friday night. We all have so much fun when we are learning from Laura. I love chatting with everyone too. Laura is so talented and I admire the way she can take an idea from her head, put it on paper and then make it come to life in a demensional mini. I appreciate the fact that you so freely share your projects with us, and when I get my patterns, which are worth every penny of the price, I can not wait to get started on it !!! You rock girl and you touch my heart with the way you show love and kindness to each and every one of us. Keep up the good work!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've never seen such an active blog before! LOL! Zelda

  44. quote:".....I for one have purchased every single one of your tutorials; being that you are such a pest about it, I am letting you know that I am forwarding every single one of the patterns that I have purchased from you to my entire contact list..." unquote.
...And you and your friends are doing this because you are not talented and creative enough to make your own or you don't want to pay the person who is an interior architect and knows a lot about designing and spend hours to come with something nice? My God, don't you get it, the PATTERNS are her own design, she has the right to sell them and to talk about the copyrights.

    ReplyDelete
  45. ... and you post your comments as anonymous because after all these unpleasant thoughts and words for Laura, you still want to buy her up coming patterns?!!!!! this is pathetic!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love all your stuff!Keep up the awesome work,I can`t wait to see your Alice project! You Rock

    ReplyDelete
  47. Isn't there any way to prevent such drivel from happening on this great blog....unfotunately and sadly I think the only way would be for Laura to eliminate the area for comments or just never read any of it!...which really would be a huge shame because then should wouldn't get to read all the wonderful comments and thank yous from her faithful followers....she should be spending her time enjoying her family, living life and being creative, not having to have such petty tripe spoiling it all for her.....chin up Laura....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Now wait a minute. Laura has already addressed this issue, both on the original video and in this comment section. She owes you nothing and has nothing to hide from. Unlike you, hiding behind anonymity. She did not start the unpleasantness...it is up to YOU, Anonymous, to stop it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. No, Laura has not addressed any of the issues at hand. She has totally ignored what she cannot defend! if she really wanted to stop this, she would defend her position! Obviously that is something she cannot do!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi, Anonymous!
I'm unsure whether you're the same Anonymous or a different Anonymous(s) who have posted comments on this particular blog string. So I will ask you, in particular, what are the issues that are pressing on your mind? Can you tell us what specifically is troubling you? I, indeed, would like to know.
Anyway, you for Anonynous, other Anonymous individuals, named individuals, and followers of this blog, before any ustream show, Laura is busy as she prepares and readies for tonight's project.
The show for this evening is a very special one, dedicated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for a Cure and Passionately Pink for a Cure. Many have expressed a keen interest and desire to participate and contribute their time and efforts to this worthy cause.
So I, myself, will now make plans and get ready, rummaging through my stockpile of scraps for all things pink, and will stop here.
Thanks for listening, Anonymous, and I look forward to a clarification of your concerns.
    Zelda
