....we will be soon!
We have NEVER taken a true family vacation (visiting family in other states doesn't really count in my eyes). This year we decided that we need to just do it before the kids get any older, so....
We are going to DISNEY WORLD!
Call me crazy for going to Florida in July but....just imagine the 4th of July FIREWORKS at Disney World!!
Woo Hoo!
We will head out on the 3rd to Orlando (via a short layover in San Francisco) and return on the 10th. That means I will miss having a class on the weekend after the holiday, but I need the break. The kids are beyond excited! Sarah is ready to start packing tonight!
I may be paying for it forever, but it will be worth every penny to have the memories with the kids while they are still young enough to realize the magic. Guess this means a Disney mini is in my future!
I was so excited with the response I have had to the new Pick Pocket Mini! I am so glad that you all love it as much as I do! I was able to add a few more of each of the kit styles if you are looking for one....
I am finishing up the CHA Suitcase sample and pattern. The pattern should be ready by the end of the week if not sooner.
Have an awesome week!
Laura

How AWESOME Laura......you'll be in my backyard! Yes, it is extremely hot this time of year, but totally fun, especially your first time. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWow, a Northwestern girl in Florida in July. I would definately call you crazy if it wasn't for the fact that the destination is WDW. Your kids are going to love it. So glad you get to take a real family vacation. Make sure you have plenty of shorts, tanks, comfy shoes and sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteWon't be surprised if you come back trying to figure out how to take another trip sometime in the cooler winter months. Christmas time in WDW is fabulous.
And the 4th of July Fireworks in the Magic Kingdom should be fabulous too!
You guys have the best time ever.
How awesome! A Disney mini will be just what I need this summer...I have friends going in August.
ReplyDeleteHope you have the best time ever!!!
So happy for you and your family! You totally deserve and kick back and relax vacation!

You and the family are going to have such an awesome time. I remember taking my girls when they were little. We had so much fun and that vacation is the one they remember the most!!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun and enjoy your time with the family. They grow up very fast.
Mary
Good for You! Don't let your kids miss the Brer Rabbit, Haunted House or Thunder Mountain rides! If you are there more than one night, enjoy the fireworks but the next night take that time to go to the rides as they are usually empty and the kids could ride and proverbial circus clown DON'T go through the Small World ride - it will haunt them the rest of their life! Mary Werner
ReplyDeleteA Disney mini would be so nice.
ReplyDeleteMy husband, my sister and I were in Disneyland, CA back in 2005. We had a great time there. Although I hate planes and flying to LA takes more than 24 hours, still, I hope we can go there again in the future. We have tons of photos, so a Laura Denison Disney album would be more than perfect....
There are some awesome books out there on the tips and tricks on visiting WDW. Summer is a busy time so any information helps. Don't forget your sunscreen! Enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteYour vacation sounds wonderful. The kids will really love it heck both you and your honey will enjoy it too. Looking forward to hearing all about it. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteLaura, you and your family are going to LOVE Disney! I'm so super excited for you all. I'm a bit of a Disney nut and like to go as often as we can afford it ;) Since you're going to be there for a while take the time to enjoy every thing (even the little details like the architecture and plants) You will have a truly magical time.
ReplyDeleteYou will love it. I went a few years ago with my sister and her two girls. We also went for the 4th of July. It was so much fun and yes it was HOT! but so worth it. Do get the book for signatures. Take your time and enjoy everything. Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteYou will LOVE it Laura! We live in UK and have been 4 times and still we haven't seen it all. I love the attention to detail in the buildings etc, the kids (grown up now) love the rollercoasters and my grandson loves seeing the characters truly something for everyone! Try to go to Universal too and see Harry Potter - I'd love a Harry Potter type mini - could Wizard of Oz be put to good use here???? The break will be good for you too as well as the 'quality' time with your family. I recommend the website 'mousesavers.com' for great info on the rides that are open/closed etc, special events etc. Its a newsletter from a real disney fan but they know all there is to know and also have links to sites for discount tickets too. Have fun!!
ReplyDeletei am so excited for you and your family have an awesome vacation in disney!!! Can not wait to see the mini you make!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura ,i'm really happy for you and your family ,you deserve taking vacation with your family . Have a great time and thank you so much for sharing with us . have fun!!!! France aka medania. Hugs

ReplyDeleteYou and your fanily deserve this break. Go to WDW, have a wonderful time, because there is magic. Your kids will love and remember this adventura for ever, like mine do.

Fantastic news Laura - everyone needs a special family holiday so I realy wish you all the most wonderful time! Enjoy every minute all of you! Jen x
ReplyDeleteFUN, FUN, FUN! Your kiddos will be thrilled. Went there with my youngest daughter 3 years ago. Will never forget it. BTW, I agree with skipping the Small World ride. YIKES!
ReplyDeleteI went to Disneyland when I was 14....I can still hear the Small World song in my head decades later. I'm skipping that ride!!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! My daughter and I have gone at least once a year since Hurrican Katrina. My son got married there in 2007. We will be back there again in October. I just love the Epcot Food and Wine Fest that is held in Oct. and Nov. We just love it. I am ready for a Disney Mini anytime.

Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteHope you all have a wonderful vacation!
How do I find the Ustream video for the Full pockets pattern?
Thanks.
A Disney mini? I think not! I think this will be the birth of Laura's first Maxi!!! How can you put a trip like that in a mini? Never will happen :-). Have a great time!!!
ReplyDeleteWOUW congratulations with this decision here, and I know, you wount regret that. We let our daughter go with a friends family when she was young, and even it was "only" Disneyland Paris, she was enjoying it for sooo many years after and kept on and on about all she had expirienced there for many years after, so it was definately worth all the money and a lifetime expirience for her. So just go for it and have a lot of fun there all of you. We´ll be waiting here in exitement to hear all about it, when you get back again.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time filled with joy and fun there.
Enjoy your happy memory making. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh what fun Laura! You will LOVE it! I've been there for the fourth and the fireworks are FANTASTIC! Well deserved.....enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you and your family. We too will be there at that time! Put it off long enough and decided to go for it! Have a safe and wonderful trip, If I see you I'll definately give a shout
ReplyDeleteHave a nice and wonderful trip! Laura. you will love it. but tons of people that day. huy
ReplyDeletehugs xochitl montano
Laura and family - have a wonderful time :-)
ReplyDeleteI went at the end of July 6 years ago and yes it was hot, hot. Thank goodness for the lazy rivers - luckily my 2 ( I took the 2 youngest - eldest was spending summer vacation with a friend in Kansas!!) were old enough to take themselves off on the rides!! We stayed in Kissimmee and had the best time. I still want to go again
OMG! YOU ARE CRAZY!!! LOL! I have been to Disney World in both July and August, though, so I can't call you TOO crazy! The water rides and parks are SO nice in the summer & Disney does fireworks like no one else. Disney does EVERYTHING like no one else.
ReplyDeleteAlso, be sure to check out Universal Studios Islands of Adventure one day as well if you have Harry Potter fans in the house. We went there for Mr. Lifeguard's 40th birthday and it was like being in Hogwarts ~ INCREDIBLE! You and your kids will have so much fun!
~Kathryn :D
Just a note............
ReplyDeleteYes the Small World song can be annoying and stays with ya for a while, but the Small World ride at WDW is better than the one at DL. Same song, but the aesthetics are better.
There's a lot to see. Our last trip there was 16 days and we never left Disney Property. Finally felt like we were able to do it all. All 4 parks are great for different reasons. They will probably love Disney Studios and World Showcase at Epcot is really fun to experience the different cultures and food.
You will love Disney World! It is truly an magical place. I can't wait to see the Disney Mini you will come up with from this experience.
ReplyDeleteMy friend took her 10 year old daughter to Disney World in April. She made a mini-album with Disney theme for Savannah to get autographs from the characters. Her plan was to put the picture of her daughter and the character on the page with the signature but they signed pretty big. Anyway, I thought that would be something fun for Sarah to do.
ReplyDeleteAwesome ... you will love it ... this comes from someone who goes to Disney World twice a year!!! Maybe there will be a Disney mini album in the future?????
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation cause you definitely deserve it. Have any Disney questions ... contact me ... :)
Hi Laura - What fun ... Disney World. You'll have a great time. Be sure to bring your ponchos (or fold-up umbrellas)as the sky just explodes everyday around 3:00 p.m. and POURS. By the way .. during your short stay in San Francisco, are you going to be teaching anywhere down here? Have a great vacation.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, only going to be in SF for an hour each way.....
ReplyDeleteWish I could stay longer. I did my undergraduate school in the Bay area and haven't been back since I graduated!
Hello Laura!
ReplyDeleteI just ran across your matchbook mini album from your Fourth Day of Christmas on YouTube. I cannot find it on your blog though, as referenced in your video. Could you please post a direct link for me? It is so creative and I cannot wait to make one...I just want to get the paper dimensions correct. Your projects are beautiful!
Thanks!

Hi Laura
ReplyDeleteWhile it is very hot and humid in July when you are visiting WDW, if you start out early, take a break during the middle of the day and return in late afternoon...you all will survive. Dining at Disney is a great experience...hope you choose to try it out. If you are renting a car...avoid filling up on Semoran Blvd which leads to the airport...the closest gas stations are notorious for gouging customer since they don't post their prices...
I live 1 hour EAST of WDW on the coast and I have been at WDW on July 4th..the thunderstorms CAN be a problem...stay safe
You guys are going to have so much fun! We just got back from our 3rd trip to Disney World. I know we will go again someday, I can't get enough and the boys love it! Have a blast!!!! Hugs ~Schell
ReplyDeleteMy most favorite vacation was at Disney World. I encourage anyone going to stay at the park if possible. It would have been so nice to catch the monorail everynight to our room. We were exhausted from the heat but still loved it so much! We bought those spray bottles with fans on them and used them all day to cool off. Take a back pack with juices and water so you don't have to wait in line for something to drink as you will need lots of fluids. Most of all, have fun!!! (and pace yourself) Betty Mae
ReplyDeleteWOW so exciting! Tip#1 Wear comfortable running shoes with good padding and support!!! No flip flops (with all that walking, your feet will hurt so bad for weeks after)Tip #2 Theres so much to to you can never do it all in one trip and will only be exausted and dissapointed if you try! Tip #3 Be silly! When in the happiest place on earth, dont be afraid to be a kid!! Thats when the best memories happen. Enjoy and say hi to mickey for us all!
ReplyDeleteCrystal
It is our favorite place on Earth! Been there a dozen times....only once in the summer (end of August). SCORCHING!!! But you will have a blast and I can't wait to see what you will do with the trip when you get home!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Oh Laura I am soooooo excited for you. We just back from Disney and I have become a little obsessed with it. lol. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. Plan your days. Do try to fit it all in at once. if you can space it out. My daighter is only 4 but all she wanted was the Magic Kingdom, so we had 4 days there and 1 at Hollywood. And we had the best time. We saw everyone, did all the rides several times and we even spent time at our resort. It was GREAT. And I cannot wait to see your version of a Disney mini. Have a great trip and keep the projects coming. :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteHI Laura: be sure and go to Blizzard Beach. yes, get fans on the water bottles or misters. also ponchos for the afternoon thunderstorms (you can get them in the park with disney themes). The food court in the Land pavillion is good as well as the downstairs French restaurant in Epcot. Make your reservations before you go. Soaring, cars (in hollywood studios), gm test track, ride with the hydroponic plants in the land pavillion, tower of terror. Have a blast. tracy
ReplyDeleteDisney mini? You read my mind! I CANNOT wait! Planning our 4th trip for the Food & Wine festival at Epcot in October. A Disney mini would be perfect to have ready for all the pics! Love all the mini pavilions around World Showcase with all the small tastes of so many different foods! Last time it felt like we had gained 10 pounds from all the FOOD but we still lost weight from the walking! LOL Have a GREAT time!
