As April Ends....

I am looking forward to the May Flowers! We had a very mild winter here in the Northwest. Spring, however has been wet. I am ready for the showers of April to end and the flowers of May to start showing up!!!
To be honest though, I am ecstatic to have the weather as one of my major complaints this year. Last year, at this time, it was one of the darkest times for our family. My son went through a VERY rough period in April of last year (....he is doing amazingly better now!) He was eventually diagnosed with a severe Anxiety Disorder and thankfully therapy and medication has worked miracles to return him to a happier and functioning 12 year old again. During the process of trying to figure out just what was happening to to my sweet boy, Autism (most notably Asbergers Syndrome) came up from many different resources. As I researched about Autism, red flag after red flag about incidents in my son's life started flying. Though his current doctor team doesn't feel he is on the Autism spectrum (Autism is a spectrum disorder with a huge range of functioning and symptoms), I learned a lot about this disorder and how early diagnosis and intervention can help to unlock the puzzle of how these children perceive and function in the world. The foundation Autism Speaks is one of the leaders in assisting families affected and in funding research about Autism. April is Autism Awareness month. In honor of that, Tattered Angels (makers of my one of my fav's "Glimmer Mist") has team with Autism Speaks and introduced a special Glimmer Mist color called "Glimmer of Hope". Proceeds from the sale of this limited addition mist will go to Autism Speaks. They have sold out on the Tattered Angels website, however, I ordered TWO bottles before that happened. They should be arriving any day now. I am willing to part with one of them...

Tomorrow is National Scrapbook Day, I will be hosting the second part of the Gatefold Mini Album class on Ustream late in the afternoon. Leave a comment here on my blog about what you are doing to celebrate National Scrapbook Day BEFORE 3:00 Pacific time on Saturday to be entered to win (the Ustream class starts at 4pm Pacific time...I'll need time to get the drawing ready) At the end of my show I will be doing a drawing to give the "Glimmer of Hope" mist as well as a few other items...... (you don't have to be present to win!)
See you tonight for Part One of the Gatefold Mini Album!

  22. Hi Laura

Unfortunately I will be working all weekend. I didn't check my calendar to see what weekend I was working and it was too late to request it off. Our schedules are out over a month in advance. I work in a small hospital and our unit is very hard to keep staffed. I am going to try and watch your ustream class and work on organizing my craft room. It is great that TA is helping a worthy cause. I am happy that you and your family are doing well. Have a great NSD and Mother's Day. It is so great that mothers get their own day.

  61. Hi Laura, I saw this mist on the TA website the first day it was on there. I asked my LSS owner to get me at least 3 bottles of it. She still has yet to be able to get any of it...I want it, not only to help out other children and individuals on the autism spectrum, but also for my son. Joey is 19 and is on the severe/profound part of ASD. Joey is the light of my life. Once the other kids have gone and moved out, there will still be Santa and the Easter Bunny at our house. Joey can always put a smile on my face, no matter what kind of day I am having, he is my light.

Now for NSD tomorrow, first I have to get dd ready for her Senior prom after that I will be scrapping the evening way. But I did get a head start and have been scrapping all day today as well ;o)

This is such a wonderful giveaway you are having. Thanks so much for getting info out to individuals. That will be the key to finding the cure for autism, public awareness.

    Thanks again.

  92. Hi Laura, When my son was in grade 4 we transfer him to a new school. With the transfer came unexpected behaviour changes. In grade 5 my son was diagnosis with Asbergers. Today he is a health 16 year old, and just the sweetiest kid I know. Today, on national scrapbooking day I will be painting our deck, then off to Michaels.
They have a sale on their cricut cartridge. "Happy Scrapbooking Day"

  93. Hi Laura, I will be celebrating National Scrapbook Day by buying some boards to make my own shelf system for my scrapbook area. Need to get organized! I'll also be spending yet more money at Michael's. Have to use that 40% off—I even have a 50% off as well this week. I used to think that someday I would get caught up and not have to buy so much. Well, silly me; of course that's never going to happen. I guess you could say I'm celebrating National Scrapbook Day by participating in the hobby that is going to have me living on the streets if I'm not careful. :) It sure gets a hold of you. Good Lord I've discovered minis!!

Im going to try to attend this cyber crop that's going on from one of my YahooGroups. Then I'll be back to UStream for your Part II tonight.

I don't have any scrappy friends local so ... I really love the videos on YouTube/UStream. I'd run around the city today to the LSS but it's rainy and miserable out and I don't drive so Michaels will be my one and only stop, if I can get my printer to work and print out the coupon!

  102. Hello, I just found your sites and love your artwork. It was so cute having your son answer the phone last night. It is always nice to have a little helper. I will keep watching, thank you so much.

  103. Love your work!! I'm trying to finish up a Christmas album so I can clean up my craft/guest room since my kids & grandkids will be visiting in a couple weeks! Went to Ustream to find last night's show and couldn't find it. I put in follow the paper trail, is that the wrong name? I adore watching you on Ustream & You Tube. You take your time and you clearly explain every step.

  105. What a great giveaway and such a worthy cause. To be honest I've yet to invest in glimmer mist. I want to try it, but I have to order it online, and I already have perfect pearls. So many products I want and so little money for it all. BTW I LOVE your mini albums.

  107. Hi Laura, I will be locked in my craft cage all day long! Can't wait for your ustream. I would love to be entered into one of your drawings. As a mom of a grown son with Aspbergers, I can relate to the struggle to try and understand what's going on in your child's head. From the age of 2 I realized my son was different. He is 25 now, still very unique but he has found his niche. Thank heavens the world is big and wonderful enough for all of us to find our place in it. Bless you Laura. Hugs from Oregon. Belinda

  108. Hi Laura. For NSD I'm working on making some flowers - glimmer misted of course - and also organizing my scrap stash so I can spend more time working on projects and less time looking for things. :)
